“God’s Way Or Our Way”
Matthew 16:21–28
Countless times have I thought that I knew better than God himself, typical Peter sort of attitude of always jumping up to speak before my appointed time. To jump out of God’s time zone and fulfill my own selfish desires of what I want when I want it. “Thou art an offense unto me.” He told Peter. An OFFENCE to the one who so graciously sacrificed himself for me, Lord help me out of my ignorance I plea. “For thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” Carnality is the most dangerous asset mankind possesses. The lust within us can so quickly deceive and mislead us, down a path of destruction, creating a taste for death itself within us. We are not without counsel however, we have not been left without sound advice. Jesus knew this and knew the only way it would work is if we denied ourselves, picked up our cross, and followed him. There is only one truth and one way that leads to salvation. We cannot rely on our own strength of power to walk on two feet in a righteous manner. His instruction was so we could save our life because by our own deceitful minds we would lose our lives trying to save
them. For the wages of sin are death. As we follow him, our minds and hearts can start to drift, being filled with thoughts of gaining earthly riches. But we have to ask ourselves, is it really worth it? Do those things really mean
that much to us? His will for His Kingdom will create eternal rewards on top of the inheritance we already have. Keep your eyes on Jesus. In that day, many will see and feel death, eternal separation from God as they witness His Kingdom coming down and the gates are closed. What’s it worth? What is your soul worth? Are the things of today worth trading for the riches of forever? Open the eyes of our heart Lord . . . so we may see YOU . . .
